Executive Background
After decades of leadership and executive experience in private industry and as a military officer, inspiring and developing strong leaders has become a passion for Vance. He has always had an innate capability to help leaders and organizations succeed, and now he makes it his full-time mission. His career in various leadership roles allowed him to navigate countless strategic, operational, personnel, and financial challenges and opportunities. Vance Crocker has personally coached both leaders and teams through unprecedented change, business model disruptions, and most recently, COVID-19 and supply chain issues.
Vance understands the challenges of navigating change to deliver long-term business results while still meeting short-term business demands, including those of the investment community. He has served in various executive leadership roles of Vice President, State Utility Leader, and General Manager. In these roles, Vance had overall financial and operational responsibility for the companies he led. His broad experience in strategic planning, business transformation, operations, regulatory, legislative, public relations, branding, and M&A rounded out his career. Vance’s labor and human relations expertise resulted in defusing unionization attempts and improving employee engagement and satisfaction. Vance has significant experience in the energy space, specifically in the clean energy transformation occurring worldwide.
Unlike many coaches with only academic background, Vance combines broad real-world experience and business acumen with academic training as a certified executive coach. This combination affords him keen insight and the ability to coach leaders through all aspects of the business environment. Vance enjoys partnering with organizations to develop adept leaders and assisting them in reaching corporate, strategic, and personal goals. He has successfully developed leaders to close the gap between their leadership capacity and their organization’s leadership needs, resulting in business improvements and personal career advancement up to the executive level.
Vance Crocker is a retired energy executive, a registered electrical engineer, a certified executive coach through the College of Executive Coaching, and a graduate of the U.S. Army’s Command and General Staff College. Additionally, Vance is a retired Lieutenant Colonel in the Army National Guard and a combat veteran. He has received multiple military awards, including the U.S. Army’s Bronze Star and Legion of Merit. Recently, he received the ambassador award of excellence from a local non-profit, where he enjoys volunteering.
Vance has served as a board member for various boards, including post-secondary education, airports, and non-profits. He is active in his local community and serves on the Caring Pregnancy Center Board and the United Way Board, where he’s the area campaign chair. Through Vance’s leadership, Black Hills Energy in Colorado received the Distinguished Service to the Community Award from Colorado State University. This award was a significant accomplishment, as distrust and anger toward the utility were at an all-time high when Vance assumed the leadership role. He prevented a hostile takeover by a vote of the people. The companies Vance has led have also been recipients of national awards for emergency response, patriotism, and branding.

Testimonials
I have never worked with anyone as good at developing talent, leading and building company success as with Vance Crocker.
He truly brings out the best in people and organizations. As an organization leader, he was the catalyst for positive change, taking a poorly functioning team and reworked them into a well-oiled machine. He gave people ownership of their own work product, which created buy-in of the team, and led to overall team success. He worked with the members of the team to guide and build their own path to success, whether that be through developing their current skills, providing development opportunities for new skills and leadership, or finding unique paths for development. He left no page unturned, ensuring both he and his team developed transition and succession plans, and developing the next level of leaders. And with all of these positive changes, he created a robust, successful and proud organization. I would recommend Vance to any person, organization or company looking to create success – you will achieve it with him on your side.
Vance is a strong authentic leader who has tapped into the framework of emotional intelligence and investing in the whole person for leadership development.
I worked with Vance for more than 5 years and I owe so much of my professional development to his mentorship and coaching. He leads and empowers individuals and team to achieve goals.
I hired Vance to help my company based on his broad experience.
Vance has a passion and knack for developing leaders and has an incredible amount of hands on experience in developing leaders versus just academic knowledge and talk. As an Army officer, combat veteran and successful utility executive, he knows how to develop leaders of all kinds. If you have an organization with a big vision and want to develop your leaders to navigate change and drive organizational growth, I highly recommend Vance.
